The Senior Manager - Data Engineering role is to lead the central data engineering function for the Data Anaytics Organization. This role will be responsible for coordinating with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate deliverables and leadership for the development of technical standards. This leader will be responsible for growing and mentoring team members and providing strategic direction for the data engineering function. Must also demonstrate technical thought leadership, ability to grow people, and process improvement skills.

The position will work on cutting edge data technology by being a key contributor on Ryder's Azure Data Lake and analytics initiatives as an expert in this field. The Senior Manager – Data Engineering will use their skills to provide oversight of experts of data structures specific to Transportation and Warehouse operating systems and provide leadership to turn this data into concrete value-add for the business.

On this team a Senior Manager - Data Engineering will be a part of the leadership team, collaborating with other managers and directors responsible for Data Analysts and Data Scientists, using all their skills in order to exploit data to drive the business forward. The Senior Manager – Data Engineer pushes the envelope of what is possible to lead a team in the big data space for streaming live data into a data lake; moving data from raw replication, to cleansed, to an aggregated solution for the analytics team to leverage.


Responsible for operational and technical strategy for the Data Engineering function including the development of standards, roadmaps, and delivery.

Responsible for deliverables based on stakeholder roadmaps

Coaches and counsels employees on performance, sets expectations and manages outcomes of employee development, objectives and goals.

Responsible for budgets including tracking any billable / non-billable hours for stakeholder projects.

Oversight of the extraction, transformations and loading from the source systems and the data lake to the analytics products using independently developed logic.

Enhance data maturity and integration for Ryder’s products by interacting with operations to standardize the core value-add functionality, enabling a multiplier effect

Challenge the status quo guiding entrepreneurial innovation in both analytical products and the curation of new data sources elevating analytics beyond data reporting and dashboarding to the delivery actionable insights.

Knowledge of with Ryder’s Business, understanding the complexity of the supply chain world and the role that data has within this ecosystem.


Performs other duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree Computer Science or equivalent.

Master's degree Computer Science, MBA or equivalent preferred.


Four (4) years or more experience in leading technical teams in an agile environment

Four (4) years or more experience in data extraction, transformation & loading and experience working in a cloud environment.

Technical Experience:

ETL tools (Alteryx or SSIS)

Data manipulation tools (SQL)

Exposure to the development of predictive analytic solutions using predictive analytics tools like:

Alteryx, R, Python

Power BI, Tableau (preferred)

Working closely with technology throughout the build, test, and release of the product using agile methodologies.
